Kia Orana and Welcome

Kia Orana and Welcome to the Cook Islands Golf Club of New South Wales (“CIGCNSW”) Website. CIGCNSW was formed by a small group of people. There was no committee, no real structure just a get together on a weekend for a good round of golf. In this small group decided to expand golf to the Cook Island people in NSW, mainly within the region of Sydney. It was during this time that CIGCNSW was formed. The first committee comprised of Tuakana Tekii (President), Akeke Kavana (Secretary/Treasurer), and Ngapuna Mokotupu (Club Captain). Tuakana and Akeke introduced their young boys “Jamie Kavana and Mii Tekii” to the game of golf. Mii is now part of Western Region Golf Academy and Jamie has been part of the Penrith Golf Clubs junior program. At this point word quickly spread and numbers started to increase. CIGCNSW has always been open to all nationalities and we have had many and continue to, including, English, Europeans, Australians and our brothers and sisters from Aotearoa. Our first female members were Tangata Joseph and Crystal Cuthers. Today there are a greater number of female members. The year 2000 brought the first Cook Islands Masters in Melbourne. CIGCNSW’s involvement was one of the milestones for further and future competitions to continue in Australia, New Zealand and the Cook Islands. CIGCNSW strives to develop young and gifted Cook Island members and also to encourage, develop and improve existing members game of golf. The CIGCNSW has emerged as a club, which runs its own club competition, represents NSW in national competitions and also masters events here in Australia and overseas. CIGCNSW is a non-profit organisation, CIGCNSW membership is inexpensive, has a great social atmosphere, encouraging, supportive and welcoming all those who wish to learn the game of golf. CIGCNSW’s 2008 committee has many events and goals for the club, achievable with the support of its members. CIGCNSW invites you to come along and be part of our club and enjoy the social gathering. So we’ll see you on the first tee…….
